Writing Club Spring Break
Taking a snooze for Mountain Time Zone
Coffee & Quill Writing Club will not meet March 16 - 20.
I swear someday I will write something that’s not about Coffee & Quill Writing Club taking a pause. However, that day is not today! I’m waking up in Denver, getting ready to drive into the mountains and soak in the hot springs. I am overdue for a visit to Nature.
No sirens, no screeching subways, no sloshing piss seats. I’m looking forward to resting my eyes on wide open space so I can return to NYC and appreciate its own special blend of sights and sounds.
We have just a couple months to wrap up this MFA program! I wrote an application for a writing residency on the plane yesterday, and needed to rewrite the synopsis for my novel. I wrote the last version in May of last year, and a lot of has changed since then. In thinking through this fresh synopsis, suddenly several plot questions clicked into place, and I gained a renewed sense of what this book is actually about. It was a great exercise, and I recommend it if you’re feeling lost. Summarize the story in a one-page synopsis, preferably from memory. Reducing characters and hijinks in this fourth revision (and I have been loving some hijinks) streamlined the movement and strengthened the protagonist’s journey. I’m excited to forge ahead with this new vision in mind.
I’ll see you all bright and early next week on Monday, March 23. Happy writing!
