Write on Vacation?
Good idea!
The writing gym continues every weekday morning. I’m chipping away at this novel revision, and I’d love to see you there, deadlifting those pens and strict pressing those keys.
“But I’m at the beach!” you say.
So dribble a few words while sipping cold brew and waiting for your friends to wake up. Then you can spend all day at the beach satisfied by your heroic literary feats.
That’s what I’m doing this week at a lake house in Ontario.
A professor friend generously offered to read my manuscript though of course she only has brain space during the summer, so this has provided urgent motivation to get through a full pass of revisions by the end of July. At first, I hated having another deadline after two years of school. Let me rest!! (I scream to myself, who has created this deadline.) Yet, if I wasn’t writing, I’d be feeling weird about it.
I discovered a bald eagle while kayaking to a tiny, uninhabited island, and then I spotted its massive penthouse nest with a juvenile eagle standing guard. I’ve kayaked there every day since to gaze up at them. Yesterday, an ancient sea turtle tooted by under the water, its long prehistoric neck covered in the growths of age. What an incredible reminder that the world still hums along outside the pressure cooker of New York. I love the city and I love getting away from it.
Anyway, back to the novel. Drop in and write one of these mornings!

An eagle and a massive turtle!? Absolutely incredible.
And hell yeah to all of this 💪
